REDUNDANT GRIMSBY ROOFERS' YARD TO MAKE WAY FOR EIGHT NEW HOMES

A FORMER roofers' yard in Grimsby is set to make way for eight new homes.

North East Lincolnshire Council has granted planning consent for the site off Harold Street to be redeveloped with five houses and three flats.

A report states: "The main building used for storage of materials has an asbestos roof that is regularly in need of repair.

"The last use of the site was a storage yard and buildings for a roofing contractor but has been vacant for many years.

"Given the absence of occupation, the site  has become a target for anti-social behaviour and has regularly been entered unlawfully, much to the detriment of the wider community.

"The site is bounded by residential development on all sides with two storey terraced dwellings prevailing.

"The surrounding area is totally residential with the exception of a primary school located to the west."

The successful applicant is Scunthorpe man Mark Staniland.
