FORMER North East Lincolnshire mayor and "Grimsby treasure" Jane Hyldon-King will be signing copies of her childhood memoirs at a kiosk at Top Town Market tomorrow and on Saturday.
The Girl From The Marsh: Achieving The Improbable has been extremely well received since its launch last month.
In it, the long-serving councillor, Jane describes growing up within a family of seven children in the East Marsh of Grimsby and how the circumstances shaped her personality and outlook on life.
She is liked and loved by people from all walks of society and of all political persuasions, not least because she radiates an endlessly sunny optimism.
She can sparkle with enthusiasm, even about subjects which others might find mundane.
Jane has decided to rent a kiosk at the market tomorrow and on Saturday to meet her readers.
With her husband will be husband Paul who will be promoting More than Railways, the third in his trilogy of publications centring upon the railways of North East Lincolnshire and associated transport.
Up until Christmas Eve, all Top Town market stalls will be open from 9am until 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
North East Lincolnshire Council, which oversees the market, has taken a look at some ideas for gifts which shoppers can buy from some of the stalls.
* Collectable and fun pieces from KP Collectables – Royal Doulton Disney is always a favourite
* Grimsby Town FC merchandise
* Christmas with the Variety Girls, penned by Tracy Baines was spotted on the Black Cat Book Shop stall - a great Christmas read set in Cleethorpes
* Fashion bags at Bonita Fashion are a popular buy
* Carl’s Meats has red onion marmalade & mandarin curd
* At Birketts Butchers & Deli, you can buy their pork pies and freeze until Christmas - their scones look pretty scrumptious, too.
* Vintage & Retro Collectabila has everyone’s favourite snowman on show
* Unusual fun ornaments are on sale at Woodtique
* According to Graham Thompson Jewellery, the cuckoo clocks are always on song
* Slippers, found at The Shoe Box, are another festive favourite
* A personalised picture frame from Cobblers & Keys could be a good festive present
Says Cllr John Fenty, portfolio holder for regeneration and skills: "There are lots of fantastic products on sale - it's a great place to buy your festive gifts."
If you would like to be part of the market, call (01472) 325836. The market team is currently offering a 25 per cent discount on some of its vacant stalls.
