| Two of the stricken birds await treatment to remove oil from their feathers |
DOZENS of Herring Gulls are being treated by Cleethorpes Wildlife Recue for contamination to their feathers from oil spilled at a Grimsby factory.
It has put out a statement which reads: "We are currently dealing with an incident involving multiple birds that have arrived at our rescue contaminated with oil from a factory in Grimsby.
"Our entire volunteer team, including those who normally answer the phones and respond to messages, are currently assisting with the influx of contaminated birds and helping to triage and care for them.
"As a result, our response times to call-outs from elsewhere will be significantly longer than usual.
"We will return calls and respond to messages as soon as we have finished dealing with the immediate needs of these birds."
The statement continues:"If your enquiry is urgent, particularly if you have an injured or distressed animal requiring immediate attention, please contact your local veterinary practice in the meantime.
"We sincerely apologise for any delay and thank you for your patience and understanding."
