What a horror show! The lane before the waste had been removed |
SIX tonnes of potentially hazardous asbestos have been cleared after having been illegally dumped on the outskirts of Immingham.
North East Lincolnshire Council has revealed the same site - a leafy area off Roxton Road - was also subject to fly-tipping of 2 tonnes of rubble and 4.5 tonnes of other waste, including furniture and car parts.
The offences are believed to have been occurring since last November.
The ownership of the land is not known.
The council was under no obligation to clear the blight but did so anyway.
The public purse will have to foot the bill - put at £4,500 - unless the culprits can be caught and made to pay compensation, possibly through court action.
Large concrete blocks are now in place to prevent people accessing the spot by vehicle
Says NELC's portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, Cllr Ron Shepherd: "This has been industrial-scale fly-tipping that has blighted the area for months.
“If you have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area, or you know where the rubbish came from, please report it to us at www.nelincs.gov.uk/fly-tipping.
That's much better - beauty and tranquillity restored |
They shall not pass - these blocks should prevent recurrence of the offences |
