END OF THE RIDE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS' EARLY-MORNING BUS TRAVEL PERK

A BUS perk for North East Lincolnshire's bus-riding senior citizens is to be scrapped next week.

Concessionary bus pass holders will no longer be able to travel free before 9.30am from Monday to Friday as from next Monday.

temporary relaxation of the fee was introduced at the start of the covid-19 outbreak in order to support elderly and vulnerable residents seeking to shop early at supermarkets.

But, with the easing of lockdown, the council has decided to withdraw this bonus perk.

Following changes to Government guidance, and more people returning to work, it is expected that demand for public transport will increase.

Says NELC's portfolio holder for  transport, Cllr Stewart Swinburn: "In line with many other authorities across the area, we are now at a stage where the reintroduction of this fee for travelling before 9.30am is required."

However, for concessionary bus pass holders, free travel after 9.30am will continue as before.
