CLEETHORPES CONCRETE BARRIERS SCHEME OFF TO A 'SOLID' START - OR IS IT?

The barriers aren't things of beauty but needs must

IT is is too early to say if the new temporary  traffic scheme in St Peter's Avenue, Cleethorpes, is a success.

The installation of concrete barriers yesterday evening has allowed more space for the social distancing sought by pedestrians as they start returning to newly-reopened shops.

As part of the same project - which also takes in Market Street - a one-way system has been imposed for traffic.

Problem is some reckless motorists are now speeding up the avenue.

What is more, precious parking spaces  have been lost - a particular setback for disabled blue badge holders who particularly need to park outside shops.

Although free parking for an hour has been introduced, this is far from sufficient time for many  now that queuing is required outside shops.

A re-think may be necessary for North East Lincolnshire Council and its private sector partner, Engie.

Possibly not what was intended - a gathering point for young cyclists

  1. The barriers are completely ridiculous. Where are the 000's of porple they're designed to protect coming from? So much fear and panic in this town fuelled by daft ideas like this. If Russian tanks are due then keep them in place of course...
