CONDUCT UNBECOMING: WHY CLEETHORPES' GRANT STREET CONVENIENCES HAVE TO CLOSE

Speaking online - Cllr John Fenty

THE deputy leader of North East Lincolnshire was temporarily at a loss for words as he sought to explain some of the outrages that have been occurring at a public WC in Cleethorpes.

Cllr John Fenty told Friday's cabinet meeting: "The site in Grant Street is off the beaten track and has become a magnet for anti-social behaviour."

"You often find needles . . ."

Then he paused, and his face creased into understandable discomfort as he sought to find the appropriately restrained vocabulary.

"And you find sexual parts, if you want to call it that," he continued. "You know, items  associated with people perpetrating sexual activity."

The deputy leader confirmed that the Grant Street facility would close in order to save money for the authority as it prepares to scrap the 20p charge for use of its public loos across the borough.

Additional signage will be installed to signpost the conveniences in nearby Sea Road.
