GRIMSBY'S Fishing Heritage Centre has revealed that it has received more than £17,000 from Arts Council England to help tide it over during lockdown.
The £17,250 funding is part of a nationwide package aimed at supporting heritage and cultural organisations that have been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak and the required closure of premises.
Centre staff believe there are ways it may still prove a service despite the current measures.
A project to create a "multi-sensory loans box offer" is being developed.
This will allow aspects of the heritage centre to be loaned to interested groups.
Says a spokesperson: "It is hoped recordings of the fishing history, smell cards and activities, will help the attraction to engage with audiences and schools, even at times when the main building is closed."
"The project gives a special opportunity to work with local artists and the creative sector to create a unique educational resource that will support our educational outreach programme."
Using extractor fans to spray fishy fragrances from within the building to the surrounding area is also an option, though it is currently thought to be low on management's agenda of priorities.
