CONCRETE BARRIERS TO BE INSTALLED ON ST PETER'S AVENUE TO CREATE ADDITIONAL SOCIAL DISTANCING SPACE FOR SHOPPERS

PART of the pavement on Cleethorpe' main shopping street is to be temporarily widened to make social distancing easier.

From Sunday evening, concrete barriers will be installed on the carriageway of St Peter's Avenue on the Co-op and Wilko side.

Says North East Lincolnshire Council's highways supremo, Cllr Stewart Swinburn: "It is important that the avenue can reopen safely.”

In addition, as a result of discussions with local traders, around eight additional  parking spaces are being created in the Market Place to help the take-away and food outlets.

All will have a 30-minute restriction on them to help the flow of traffic.

Meanwhile, in Market Street, the current taxi rank will remain in operation from 6pm to 6am.

Additionally, customers who pre-order food for collection will be allowed to use the loading bay in Market Street.

Continues Cllr Swinburn: “Coming out of the lock-down situation was never going to be easy

"We are doing the best we can to help local businesses and their customers.

"We know that they will already have more than enough to think about with social distancing measures inside their stores.

"This is about giving people enough room to circulate in the public spaces in order to provide that confidence that people can shop safely.

“We are going to put these measures in from 7pm on Sunday night, and we will keep them under review to see if we need to tweak them.

"We want to see how they work, and we also need to  respond to any further changes to Government guidance in the coming weeks, particularly in relation to the reopening of pubs and clubs.”

While the barriers  are being installed, there may be short periods on Sunday where there is no access to St Peter’s Avenue and Market Street.
