The Yarborough Hotel - surely it's still in Grimsby, isn't it? |
THERE was a surprise for North East Lincolnshire Council planning officer Cheryl Jarvis when she scrutinised an application by pubs group Wetherpoon for consent to make changes to the outside of Grimsby's Yarborough Hotel.
In its description of the location, the agent wrote: "Thirsk is a small market town with a population of 4,998.
"It is a popular tourist town with a racecourse on its western side, and there is a history of settlement at this location dating back as far as 500 BC. . . "
Somehow the agent - a leading architectural firm in Manchester - seems to have muddled up The Yarborough in Grimsby's Bethlehem Street with The Three Tuns - also Grade II listed - in the North Yorkshire town.
Fortunately, Ms Jarvis has graciously disregarded the lapse and concentrated on the nitty-gritty of the application.
After due consideration, she has granted Listed Building Consent for the following external works to The Yarborough:
- Fixing new timber panels to the inside of the existing boundary railings
- An extension of the existing bin store in boarded fencing
- Installation of new brick planters with coping
- Installation of a power assist module to the external door
- New perforated metal inlays into the existing ramp balustrade
- New external lighting
- New paving and astro turf
- Repairs to existing boundary wall
- Repairs and new stone tiles to existing steps
To spare their blushes, this report has withheld the identity of the architects.
