Grey lag geese at Cleethorpes Boating Lake - one lost its life in an incident in autumn |
COURT action is to follow an incident which resulted in the death in Cleethorpes of a grey lag goose.
Humberside police said an 18-year-old has been summonsed to appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court on Monday 10 January.
He has been charged with committing offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981, and Road Traffic Act, 1988, following the incident, said to have involved a van, on Sunday 24 October at the perimeter of the boating lake.
Initially, police said they would take no action after the accused expressed remorse and said he was willing to pay 'compensation' to the charity, Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue, whose officers attended the scene.
However, following a backlash from the public, the Force reopened its investigation.
In a statement today, a police spokesperson said: "We thank everyone for their support in assisting with our inquiries."
Cleethorpes Boating Lake - usually a scene of tranquillity
Quite right. Obviously the wish of the public.
