Cllr Fenty - stepping down from local politics |
A PLUM Conservative seat on North East Lincolnshire Council will be up for grabs in May.
The imminent vacancy for the Humberston and New Waltham ward has been created by the decision of the authority's former deputy leader, Cllr John Fenty, not to stand for re-election.
It is not known if the Conservative constituency association has yet selected a candidate.
The departure of Cllr Fenty (60) will be a blow to the authority which is certain to miss his experience, especially of the business world, his entrepreneurial flair and his sense of purpose.
In the past, he has been take of as a potential parliamentary candidate - if not here, in some other constituency - but Cllr Fenty has never confirmed this to be his intention.
At present, much of his attention is focused on Grimsby Town FC where he is understood to be unwinding his position as board member and shareholder-in-chief.
At the most election contested by Cllr Fenty in the Humberston and New Waltham ward, in May 2016, the result was:
Monica Ruth Brasted (UKIP): 693
Andy Dickson (Green): 54
John Shelton Fenty (Conservative): 1481
David William Mitchell (Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition): 29
Chris Nichols (Labour): 519
The two other representatives (both Conservative) for the Humberston and New Waltham ward are Stephen Harness and Stan Shreeve.
This year's local election will take place on May 6.
