AMERICANS ABANDON PLANS TO TAKE OVER UK COMPANY WITH THREE PUBS IN CLEETHORPES

Smugglers - staying in British ownership

AN American firm has abandoned its plans to take over pubs-and-brewing chain  Marston which has three hostelries in Cleethorpes.

Platinum Equity twice upped its offer for the Wolverhampton-based company, but the board rejected it as "significantly undervaluing" the company.

Even though its pubs are closed during lockdown, Marston chiefs think the company will enjoy a strong post-pandemic  bounce.

The trio of Cleethorpes pubs are: Smugglers, Trawlerman and The Pear Tree.
