UNCERTAIN FUTURE FOR TWO GREAT COATES PINE TREES BLAMED FOR CLAY SHRINKAGE

Subsidence woes - are pine tree roots causing clay shrinkage?

TWO protected pine trees in Great Coates are earmarked for the chop because they are said to be causing subsidence damage.

It is claimed that the  roots of the trees, which are located at 43 Meadowbank,  have induced clay shrinkage.

Installation of a deep root barrier has been considered as an alternative to  removal and might be viable - but at a potential cost of £25,000.

Another option would be to underpin the property but that could cost as much as £45,000.

Should the trees be removed, there would still be a need for subsequent superstructure repairs and decorations, but at a significantly lower cost.

The proposal to fell is currently under consideration in North East Lincolnshire Council's planning department which must decide whether to allow an exiting  tree preservation order to be removed.
