WHY THE LACK OF INTEREST IN PRIME TOURISM SITE ON CLEETHORPES SEAFRONT?

The council has come up with an imaginative design, so why no takers?

A £4-MILLION project build a new amenity building opposite Cleethorpes Pier has stalled.

North East Lincolnshire Council hoped private enterprise would be keen to develop the site of the former Waves pub off Sea Road.

Sadly, however, interest to date has been tepid to non-existent, and the vacant land remains boarded up with unsightly hoardings.

The situation has been blamed on the pandemic which, according to the council, has depressed the market for the tourism and hospitality sectors.

However, it says it will keep plugging away.

Says a report: "Given the prime location and strategic importance of the site, the authority will continue to  market it proactively through its agents, PPH."

Opportunities, opportunities!

The vacant site - would a short-term weekend market be an option?

The Grimsby News says: The lack of progress is as surprising as it is disappointing. Seaside resorts elsewhere are said to be booming thanks to the pandemic-generated boom in 'staycation' holidays. As a result, they have benefited from huge investment. Why is Cleethorpes missing out? NELC and PPH clearly need a more imaginative marketing strategy.
