VEHICLES SHALL NOT PASS! NEW LOOK FOR CLOSED-OFF AND REVAMPED CLEETHORPE LAYBY

The much-abused layby has been closed to vehicular traffic in favour of pedestrian-only access

THE layby on Hewitt’s Avenue, opposite the car dealerships in Cleethorpes, has been permanently closed with the installation of fencing, gates and new kerbs to deter fly-tippers.

The layby was temporarily closed in 2018 to prevent access following reports of fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour in the layby.

Since then, a legally-binding Traffic Regulation Order has given the go-ahead for the permanent closure of the site.

All existing vehicle access has been removed. New kerbs, drainage, topsoil, fencing and gates are now installed to secure the layby closure.

Says Cllr Stewart Swinburn, North East Lincolnshire Council's portfolio holder for environment and transport: "This is a much-needed step to combat the recurring problems of fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.

"It will also help stop dangerous substances such as chemicals and asbestos from being dumped at the site."

The council has not yet revealed what sort of planting scheme is proposed for the topsoil
