A LESSON FROM THAILAND - HARNESSING POWER OF SUN WITH FLOATING SOLAR ENERGY PARK

Could floating solar energy panels help to tackle climate change? That is the belief of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand which this week announced that it has begun generating power from a venture - about the size of 70 soccer pitches - at Sirindhorn reservoir, about 410 miles east of the capital city, Bangkok. In all, there are 145,000 solar panels harnessing power from the sun. The project is thought to be less harmful to the environment than offshore windfarms (which are potentially lethal to many bird species) and does not require food-producing agricultural land.
