Lakeside drama in Cleethorpes Country Park
|
A harmless bit of fun with Fido? Or cruel swan-bating?
That was the question at Cleethorpes Country Park where a swan in danger squared up to dog and walker.
We have cropped the photographs so as not to embarrass the animal's owner, but what may have been amusing to her was obviously stressful to the swan, his mate and their three cygnets.
Happily the confrontation was short - five minutes at maximum - and led to no physical contact between mammal and bird.
'Entertainment' over, dog and owner skulked off and the swan returned, unscathed, to his family.

And surrenders

Reunited with his proud family - a triumphant Snowy
The Grimsby News says: Can't swans read? The sign pictured below clearly states that this part of the lake is designated as a place for dogs to swim. Perhaps that thought was in the mind of the animal's owner. In fairness to her, she would have probably have been mortified if the two creatures had come to blows and one or other had been injured or even killed. That said, perhaps she might have been more sensitive. Baited by a snarling dog, it was obvious the swan felt threatened. If woman and pet had vacated the scene without more ado, stress to the bird and its family would immediately have evaporated.
