NEWLY RECRUITED SAFETY STEWARDS WILL BE AT FOREFRONT OF BID TO COMBAT 'DEVIL DISEASE'

Don't stand so close to me - proximity needs to be avoided even on the beach

A SQUAD of resort safety stewards has been recruited by North East Lincolnshire Council.

They have begun patrolling Cleethorpes urging promenaders to observe social distancing and hand hygiene.

Other duties include picking up litter and sanitising high-frequency touch points.

It is all part of the ongoing campaign to keep the resort as safe as possible from the dreaded devil disease - Covid19.

Says NELC cabinet member Cllr Stewart Swinburn “It is very clear that this virus will be around for some time.

"We need to act on this and make sure that we are taking all the necessary steps to make the borough as safe as possible for residents and visitors alike.

“We need to do all we can to prevent any local outbreaks, especially in high-risk places, locations and communities."

It is understood four stewards have so far been recruited, but the squad may be further strengthened in the weeks ahead with some likely to be deployed to Grimsby town centre.
