NATURE NOW IN CHARGE AT HUMBERSTON'S FORMER TERTIA TRUST HOLIDAY SITE

Shades of the Mediterranean - a corner of the Tertia field

THE site of a former Humberston holiday camp has become another one of North East Lincolnshire Council's 'accidental' nature reserves.

Wrens, robins whitethroats and other songbirds - plus butterflies, wildflowers and deer - have taken over  the former Tertia Trust field off South Sea Lane.

And even though the demolition of the heritage buildings - some dating back to wartime - has deprived pipistrelle bats, barn owls  and swallows of breeding and roosting habitat, they can sometimes be seen foraging at dusk.

The resurgence of  wildlife has reflected what has also happened at Tertia's similarly abandoned near-neighbour, Pleasure Island theme park, Cleethorpes, which is now equally vibrant with nature.

We've got this down as  birds foot trefoil - food plant of  various blue butterflies

What finer a display of  poppies!
