A FORMER Grimsby social club is to become a dance studio.
Keelby-based entrepreneur Jade Hill - a former cruise ship dancer - has successfully applied for change of use of premises at 101 Corporation Road that were formerly the home of the West Marsh New Club and Institute.
The planning consent notice issued by North East Lincolnshire Council states: "The application seeks partially to change the use of the existing property, from former social club to a dance school with ancillary facilities to include reception, waiting area and warm-up area.
"There is an existing basement floor which will be retained for storage and an existing self-contained flat at first floor which will also be retained subject to minor reconfiguration."
"The proposed change of use will include no external changes.
"The site is located to the north positioned along Corporation Road, Grimsby on the junction with Ravenspurn Street.
"Corporation Road is a busy main road, which provides links to Grimsby Town Centre, with a mix of commercial and residential properties present along the street.
The statement continues: "It is important to note that the introduction of this use within this area will provide a further range of leisure services.
"There are bus stops nearby allowing staff and the visiting public to access the site sustainably while a car park to the rear allows for approximately 10 vehicles.
"This area is host to a mix of commercial and residential properties and will provide an additional offering."
The statement adds "Hours of opening are indicated as 8am to 11.30pm, not unreasonable in light of the former use of the building as a social club and the immediate surrounding area."
For what sort of dancing do Jade and her team provide instruction? Waltz, tango, ballet, tap, line, break, freestyle, Cossack, turbo-prop?
Possibly the lot. But given the name of her enterprise - Jade Dancefever - it seems more likely that most (but not all) of her Corporation Road clientele will be younger rather than older.
