ONE STEP AT A TIME - THINGS GETTING BACK TO NORMAL AT CREMATORIUM AND CEMETERIES

CERTAIN of the coronavirus restrictions brought in at Grimsby Crematorium are to be eased.

From tomorrow (Saturday) , the scattering and burial of ashes will again be permissible but with a maximum of six people present.

This had been suspended since  March as part of the measures introduced to inhibit the spread of Covid-19 coronavirus.

Scartho Road and Cleethorpes cemeteries are now open as per the seasonal opening hours.

The crematorium grounds are also now open as usual but the crematorium building still remains closed to the public with exception to those who are attending a funeral.

The current regulations and guidance remain in place as below:

* Crematoria must be closed except for funerals; this means that buildings should remain closed, but crematoria grounds and cemeteries can be open

* Authorities should provide hand washing/sanitising facilities for those attending funerals.

* Numbers attending a funeral should be restricted to as few as possible, and should only include members of the deceased’s household and close family, or friends if there is nobody from these groups

* Any activity that is not part of a funeral is subject to social distancing requirements, for example in England a witnessed scattering or burial of ashes should only take place with a maximum of six people involved, in line with current Government guidance on social gatherings.

The crematorium offices remain closed to the public, but inquiries can be made via email (bereavementservices@nelincs.gov.uk) or telephone (01472 324869).
