A NOTICEABLE feature of the Armed Forces weekend was the plentiful number of dogs in the crowds.
But was it fair to the pets to to be led (and sometimes dragged) through hundreds of thousands of human ankles, calves, knees and thighs?
And with the occasional added indignities of being trodden on or of having beer and fizzy drinks occasionally being accidentally spilled on their coats?
Added to their discomfort was the heat - especially that of Saturday afternoon - and the pulsating noise both of the fairground attractions and the aircraft roaring overhead.
No one, surely, would take a dog to a big sporting event or a pop concert, so why take one - or two, sometimes three - to the Armed Forces weekend
In fairness, there was no conspicuous sign of any animals being in undue distress. So perhaps they were enjoying the event as much as their owners.
What is more, they seemed to be made welcome by the organisers - there was even at least one stall, Barks Boutique, selling canine-keeping paraphernalia.
At the end of the day, who knows what goes on in the minds of dogs?
Would Rover care to comment?
