The extent of litter reveals how little some people love and respect Cleethorpes |
PLAUDITS to North East Lincolnshire Council for the great litter clear-up after the Armed Forces weekend.
It was inevitable that the bins would quickly fill, but it seemed few of those who attended were willing to take home with them their empty drinks cans, bottles, vapes and food containers.
Instead, they tossed their debris into the gutters, the foreshore greenery and sometimes into residents' gardens.
In some case, liquid or semi-liquid trade waste from fast food stalls was emptied into the road drains on Kingsway.
North East Lincolnshire Council issued a restrained statement in the wake of the Armed Forces weekend.
"For our small street cleansing team, it is the busiest weekend of the year - huge amounts of litter were left.
"Thank you both to its members and to those volunteers for helping to keep the resort clean.
"Cleethorpes has more than 320 litter bins, including many for recycling paper and plastic bottles. But as fast as the team were emptying them., they were refilling."
The statement ends: "If you are visiting the resort and a bin is full, please do help by finding another or taking your rubbish home with you."
