JET-skier among those fined by council in last year's big crackdown on public space offences

A JET-skier was among those who was fined in 2023 for breaching Public Space Protection Order.

Among the total of 9,578 fines imposed were two for unlawful parking on a beach slipway - also thought to be in connection with jet-skiing.

There were also fines (two) for metal detecting without a licence and for cycling in a prohibited area (85).

North East Lincolnshire Council has not detailed the numbers of fines on those imposed on dog-walking on the central beach between Good Friday and September 30, but says it was "a large number".

There were 1,026 fines for those dropping litter on the streets and 96 for those doing so from a vehicle.

Says Cllr Ron Shepherd, NELC's portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities: "These figures show exactly how much hard work goes into our enforcement work across the borough.

"It is important that people understand the rules  and adhere to them.  "The council has a zero-tolerance policy."

Agrees Cllr Stewart Swinburn, NELC's portfolio holder for environment and  transport: "It might seem like trivial stuff, but it’s not. 

"If we want visitors to come to our area and enjoy it, we need it to look the part. 

"Nobody wants to visit a town centre if there’s litter everywhere."
