Former mayor Colin Eastwell will be much missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him

Former mayor Colin Eastwell

A SERVICE will be held next month to celebrate the life of former North East Lincolnshire mayor Colin Eastwell who sadly died, aged 93,  on January 11.

A highly popular man, Colin was formerly a Liberal-Democrat councillor serving the Croft Baker ward. He was mayor during the 2008-09 civic year.

He had many interests including sport, especially cricket, and once hosted a party of West Indies players for a celebrity match at Cleethorpes Cricket Club.

He prepared to cook them a gargantuan breakfast, only to discover, to his dismay, that fresh fruit would have been preferable to the Test stars than a traditional English fry-up.

Colin always banged the drum for tourism, and it is likely he will be appropriately remembered by councillors and officers at the start of the  meeting of NELC's   tourism and visitor economy panel on Thursday (January 25).

The service of celebration will be held at Old Clee Parish Church, Church Lane, Old Clee, Grimsby on Wednesday  February 7 at 12.45pm.

By request, family flowers only and donations in Colin's memory to Cancer Research UK, 2 Redman Place, London E20 1JQ. A donation box will be available on the day.

Any further enquiries to: J W Emberson Funeral Directors (Tel 01472 250074).
