SEASON OF MISTS, MELLOW FRUITFULNESS . . . AND FLOCKS OF GOLDEN PLOVER
All the way from the frozen north to a field near Humberston
It has been a good autumn for sightings of golden plover. Huge flocks have been watched feeding on ploughed fields between Humberston and Tetney Lock or on the Pyewipe mudflats at Grimsby. Although some parts of the UK support breeding populations, the birds seen locally are thought to have flown here from Scandinavia or Russia.
