BLOW TO DEVELOPER AS COUNCILLORS TURN DOWN PLAN FOR 82 NEW HOMES

What future this field in Barnoldby-le-Beck

THERE has been a setback for builder and property developer Kevin Snape.

Contrary to the recommendation of their planning officers, North East Lincolnshire councillors have turned down his plan to build 82 homes on agricultural land off Bradley Road in Barnoldby-le-Beck.

The authority's refusal notice states: "The proposed development, by reason of the number of dwellings and intensive layout, would have a detrimental impact on the general character of the area.

"It would also have an adverse impact on local infrastructure and have detrimental impact on the capacity of the highway network adversely impacting on highway safety."

The many nearby residents who objected to the scheme will be delighted but this may not be the end of the matter.

Mr Snape may consider appealing to an independent Government inspector for the decision to be overturned.

Alternatively, he may submit a revised application, one with fewer homes.

* Elsewhere, there was better news for Roger Burnett whose proposal to build four houses on land off Bradford Avenue, Cleethorpes, was approved by NELC's planning committee. The dwellings will replace a block of 24 dilapidated garages which are scheduled for demolition.
