IS SEAFRONT SHED THE SOURCE OF RESORT'S POPULATION EXPLOSION OF RATS?

Rat Palace - the shed where King Roland calls the shots

A COLONY of well-fed rats is believed to be thriving in one of the busiest parts of Cleethorpes.

The pesky rodents have made their seafront home not from the pier and the vacant site of the former Waves pub.

The precise location is an old shed behind the row of buildings which play host to various fast food outlets, an amusement arcade and the premises of the Beach Safety team.

Although most active after dark, the creatures can sometimes be seen during the day as they scuttle back and forth through a hole in one side of the shed.

They are taking  their  orders from rat-in-chief  King Roland who gives his instructions from an exalted position on the top of a crate.

After breeding, the young animals  fan out to other parts of Cleethorpes to make their own homes in other sheds where they, too, breed, thereby contributing to a worrisome population explosion.

There might even be more rats were it not for foxes which, if they can catch them,  are their main predator.

Can you make him out? A worker rat reports back to HQ

Rats can easily scale bird tables, posing a threat to songbirds such as this wary robin which prefers to keep a safe social distance
