Landmark tree may face chop following pedestrians' complaints to owner about bird droppings

A superb specimen but this Monterey Cypress - a native of California - is at risk of being felled

AN uncertain future beckons for an imposing Monterey Cypress tree in Queen Elizabeth Road, Humberston.

Although it is protected by a Tree Preservation Order, the owner of the garden where the tree has been growing for many years wants to see it felled.

Why?

The householder says passing pedestrians complain of droppings on the pavements from birds perched on the branches.

Another factor is that there is a cost to maintaining the tree. In addition, though it would be well suited to a park or open space, the tree may be deemed somewhat hefty for a suburban front garden.

The owner has therefore applied to have the TPO lifted so that the tree can be removed.

A decision is expected before Easter from North East Lincolnshire Council's trees officer, Paul Chaplin.
