SPORTS FACILITIES SET FOR MAJOR BOOST AT GRIMSBY'S LADYSMITH ROAD SITE

The existing synthetic pitches have fallen into disrepair though a section  is used for dog-training classes

SPORTING action is set for a boost at Clee Fields off Ladysmith Road in Grimsby.

After years of abandonment, plans have been unveiled - and appproved - for the installation of two new synthetic all-weather football/hockey pitches, plus perimeter fencing, floodlighting and a changing room.

The car park will be reconfigured to accommodate 199 vehicles, including 12 for disabled, and spaces for cycles and motor cycles.

It is a big investment by North East Lincolnshire Council with laying of each pitch, for instance, likely to cost at least £250,000.  However, there could be some grant funding from organisations such as the Football Foundation.

A report on the project states; "The proposal will result in a significant investment at an existing recreational facility.

"It will bring benefits to the environment and to residents utilising the facility in terms of health and wellbeing."

Of the existing on-site trees, one of the 39 will need to be removed, but there are hopes that some future planting scheme could enhance the setting.
