MIGHTY INDEED - BATTLING MARINERS BACK TO FOOTBALL LEAGUE WITH EXTRA-TIME WINNER

Grimsby Town 2 Solihull Moors 1 (after extra time)

THE Mariners have bounced back to the Football League after a sensational extra time win against Solihull Moors in today's  National League final in London.

And once again they took the circuitous route to victory.

Town were down a goal at half-time, but equalised through John McAtee midway through the second half.

As in their two previous play-off matches against first Notts County, then Wrexham, the final went to extra-time.

And, once again, it was Town's never-say-die spirit that prevailed.

The winner came when  sub Jordan Maguire-Drew slotted home from close range following a long throw by Jordan Cropper.

Town are the first side to finish as low as sixth to be promoted from the National League since the play-off format was redesigned.

The travelling fans went wild with jubilation, and there were also scenes of exultation in and outside local pubs.

After the match defender Andy Smith praised the Town fans for their huge and vocal support.

"It's unbelievable - the fans have driven us on, especially at the end.

"They were the '12th man' that made the crucial difference."

His elation spilling over, he added: "This has to be the best day of my football career!"
