All things bright and beautiful - the Sea Road hoarding |
BRIGHT new graphics are welcoming visitors to Cleethorpes after being installed on the hoardings around the Sea Road development plot.
Says Cllr Philip Jackson, leader of North East Lincolnshire: "We have taken the opportunity not only to welcome visitors back to the resort and provide key information, but also to explain elements of our Masterplan for the town."
The graphics include directions and locations of key facilities, point out how to get to different parts of the resort and beach safety information, plus snippets of Cleethorpes' history - a sort of cut-price alternative to a tourist information centre.
Hemingway Design, the architects of the Masterplan, were charged with creating the colourful hoarding design, and local companies have been engaged to do the design work and the specialist print and installation.
On the downside, there is no news of any interest from developers in the vacant plot that the hoarding seeks to shield.
The cost for the hoardings design, print and installation (£16,000) was funded through a Welcome Back Fund as part of the Government’s response to COVID-19.
The Grimsby News says: The spruce-up for the hoardings is welcome, so here's hoping that the work does not deteriorate through vandalism or the ravages of the weather. However, the hoarding would be unnecessary if the council and its property consultancy partner showed more imagination and purpose in attracting a company willing actually to build on the plot. A sense of urgency is long overdue.
