Petra: 'Germans admire the Queen' |
A GERMAN visitor to Cleethorpes and London greatly enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Petra Smith is married to a Cleethorpes man, Nathan, and they live and work in Bamberg, a beautiful tourist town in Bavaria.
But they have been in the UK for much of the past week to enjoy the festivities both outside Buckingham Palace in the capital and locally where they attended a family party in the garden of a chalet on Humberston Fitties.
“It was certainly very British,"says Petra of the Jubilee event. "Beforehand, I was thinking it might be strange, but, when I arrived, I immediately got the vibe - there was a very happy and relaxed atmosphere."
What do the Germans think of The Queen?
"She is very popular, especially among the older generation,"adds Petra who is returning home today. "They admire her steadfastness, serenity, resilience and calmness.
"And, of course, the lineage of the Royal Family has strong German links and associations going back many years."
