RESIDENTS WILL BE PROTECTED FROM PRYING EYES WHEN RAIL FOOTBRIDGE OPENS

IF the Prime Minister accepts an invitation to open the nearly-completed Suggitts Lane railway footbridge later this spring, he will not be able to peer into the back gardens gardens of nearby householders.

A 1.8-metre high screen has been incorporated into the project to protect residents from any prying eyes.

The footbridge will be mostly welcomed as an access to the seafront from Grimsby Road and its sidestreets.

But it has not been without its issues.

There will be precautionary measures, possibly including temporary matchday closure, to prevent it being a flashpoint location between rival sets of fans when Grimsby Town FC play at home.

At the request of police, the footbridge has been designed in such a way as to reduce the risk of individuals seeking to do themselves harm - for instance by jumping down into the path of a train.

It is hoped the installation of CCTV will act as a disincentive to criminal or antisocial activity.

A formal date for opening the footbridge to the public has not yet been set by Network Rail.

If Boris Johnson does find time to come to Cleethorpes, cut the ribbon, then walk the bridge, this will not be announced in advance (except to local VIPs).

This is for obvious security reasons.
