NEW BUS SHELTER NEXT TO DOLPHIN GARDENS - BUT WHAT FUTURE FORMER WAVES PUB SITE?

Soon to benefit from a bus shelter - Sea Road, Cleethorpes

A NEW bus shelter is today (Monday) due to be installed on Sea Road in Cleethorpes.

The shelter, supplied by ClearChannel, was due to be installed as part of the works to improve the pavements in the area, but materials were delayed in the last year as a result of Covid.

The shelter will be located on the Dolphin Gardens side of Sea Road.

There will be some localised pedestrian management on the footpaths in that area to make sure of a safe working area during the installation. Traffic will not be affected.

The works are due to be completed by the end of Tuesday.

Meaaanwhile, staying on Sea Road, there is still no word from North East Lincolnshire Council on proposed redevelopment of the former Waves pub site.

As a result, it looks it as if will remain boarded up and derelict for many months to come  unless a deep-pocketed developer comes forward with a magic wand.

What next? The land once occupied by the Waves pub

The Grimsby News says: The new bus shelter is to be welcomed, but the lack of progress on the former site of the Waves pub serves as  a blot not just on Cleethorpes seafront but also on the reputation of the council. If NELC sees little prospect of development, perhaps - at least as a temporary stopgap measure - it should consider planting up the land with shrubs and flower as an extension to the adjoining Pier Gardens.
