COUNCIL ANNOUNCES BARRIER-REMOVAL PLAN FOR MAIN CLEETHORPES SHOPPING AREA

Barriers at the top end of the Avenue to be removed

SOME  of the concrete barriers introduced to aid  social distancing in Cleethorpes will be removed tonight.

The specific locations are:

* The  parking bays at the top of St Peter’s Avenue near the High Street

* The  parking bays between Albert Road and Cambridge Street.

This will allow the return of 30 minutes’ free parking in those existing bays.

One-hour free parking is still available in St Peter’s Avenue car park as well as in the Wardall Street and High Street car parks.

Additionally, the barriers on St Peter’s Avenue between Bentley St and High Street will be removed, but the one-way traffic flow will be retained.

On Market Street, between Mill Place and Dolphin Street, the barriers will be altered slightly to allow the 30 minute limited waiting bays opposite Ernie Beckett’s fish shop to be reopened whilst maintaining traffic through the area.

Says Cllr Stewart Swinburn, NELC's portfolio holder for highways: “We have said all along that we would continue to take traders’ comments into account in our regular reviews of the parking and social distancing measures in place in the resort.

"By removing these barriers, we are providing increased short-stay parking in the area, both to help the shops at the ends of the Avenue with passing trade, and also particularly to help our residents who may find it difficult to walk very far.”

Contractors will start the work around 8pm tonight, and the works will take up to four hours.

Access to all side streets will be maintained at all times, but there may be short periods of inconvenience to traffic while the barrier is being removed.
