A NEW chapter is set to open in the life of Immingham Playing Fields.
At a meeting tomorrow, North East Lincolnshire Council cabinet will approve transfer of the site to Immingham Town Council on a 125-year lease.
ITC will have to pay a peppercorn rent of just £1 per annum which NELC will probably not even bother to collect.
However, the former will have responsibility for renovating and maintaining the pavilion as well as for upgrading the changing rooms and toilet facilities.
This should encourage renewed use of the playing pitches.
According to a valuation report, the site could fetch £95,000 on the open market, but NELC would prefer to see it used as a community asset.
