POLICE LAUNCH PROBE AS ANOTHER SUSPECTED ARSON PUTS CLEETHORPES RESIDENTS ON ALERT

Police at the scene of the incident this afternoon

AN after-dark arsonist continues to stalk the streets of the Croft Baker ward in Cleethorpes.

The latest incident occurred at the junction of  Sherburn Street and Thrunscoe Road where a car was totally destroyed by fire.

Such was the extent of the blaze that an adjacent car was also damaged as were the door and window of a house.

Worryingly, an external gas pipe was also damaged during the incident which occurred at about 4.20am today.

Humberside firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus,  were able to bring the blaze under control using two hosereel jets and a dry powder extinguisher.

The blaze occurred just days after fires to another car on Sherburn Street and to the former Thrunscoe adult education centre on Highgate.

Police were today checking with householders to establish if they had seen  or heard anything suspicious.

The area was cordoned off as inquiries continued.

Northern Power, which supplies utility services to this area, has also been informed.
