ELEVEN PINES IN GREAT COATES WILL BE SPARED THE TREE SURGEON'S CHAINSAW

A TOTAL of 11 eleven pine trees in Great Coates have been saved from the chop.

Claiming they were causing subsidence damage, a resident sought the go-ahead for felling of the trees located at 94 Station Road.

However, NELC has turned down  the application because of the importance of the trees - which are covered by a preservation order - to the street scene.

Says the refusal letter: "The Pine trees are of significant amenity value, being prominent in the street scene as well as contributing to the tree cover within the Great Coates Conservation Area as well as its character and visual amenity.

"The loss of the pine trees would have a significant adverse
impact on the visual amenity of this location.

"Insufficient evidence has been provided in support of the application to show that the applicant's circumstances outweigh the need for the Tree Preservation Order to continue and that the only option is to fell the 12 pine trees as proposed."

However, one tree will come down.

The letter adds: "The council does consider that sufficient evidence, in this instance, has been presented to justify the removal of this tree."
