Short back and sides for wobbly willow tree but hard pruning will enable it to grow back stronger

 

Heavy pruning has been the order of the day for this willow tree on the walkway at the rear of Nelson Way in Grimsby after it became unstable during recent strong winds. Says North East Lincolnshire Council lead arborist Philip Smith: "Originally the plan was to remove the tree completely, but we  decided to save it by hard pollarding it back to allow it to regrow from the trunk."
