FARMERS who supply produce to M&S stores must be committed to the welfare of wildlife and the environment.

That was one of the messages at today's annual meeting of the 'national treasure' retailer.

Insisted chairman Archie Norman:"It is important to do right by Nature."

Acroos the UK, has 959 stores including one in Grimsby's Freshney Place. Of the total, 615 sell only food.

During the meeting, which covered a range of topics, there was a reference to the conflict in Ukraine.

On principle, M&S has ceased supplying to its former franchisee in Russia, thereby taking a significant financial hit.

Of its 10 stores in  Ukraine, six are continuing to trade despite the ongoing conflict.
