GET gambling!
That's the New Year message from North East Lincolnshire Council as it tries to drum up interest in its one-year-old Winsby Community Lottery.
Enthuses the authority: "It really is a win-win situation.
"Even if you don’t win a prize, you can be content in knowing that you are making a real difference to where we live."
According to NELC, potential beneficiaries include:
* Harbour Place Grimsby
* Friendship at Home
* Grimsby Cleethorpes and District Civic Society
* 9th Cleethorpes Rainbows & Brownies
* Care4all (North East Lincolnshire) Ltd
* Lincolnshire Community Assistance Team
* Age UK North East Lincolnshire
* Waltham Windmill Preservation Society
* Grimsby & District School of Gymnastics
* Creative Start Arts in Health
* Sunflowers Children's Action Group

The Grimsby News says: We have always believed this 'community' lottery to be an irresponsible initiative by the council. Many residents lives are blighted by addiction, and it is regrettable that the authority seems happy to ride on the gambling bandwagon. While it is true that some very worthy local charities benefit, the list above includes organisations that are essentially hobby or leisure groups well capable of raising their own funds - and at least one of which has its base outside the borough. There are also concerns about the oversight of the lottery. Which individuals oversee it and what are the administration charges? Does it publish an annual report or the full names of winners? What is the source of the prize money? In the interests of transparency, these are questions that need to be answered.
