WHAT IMPACT WILL NEW ANTENNAE HAVE ON BEAUTY PROJECT FOR GRIMSBY TOP TOWN?

The proposed new equipment - unlikely to add charm to Top Town

There has been a jolt to North East Lincolnshire Council in its multi-million pound aspirations  to enhance the St James' Church end of Grimsby's Top Town.

A plan has been submitted to increase the number of mobile phone antennae on the Devonshire House office block from three to six as part of 5G roll-out.

The council's officer, Louise Jennings, is not objecting to the proposal but is less than impressed.

Says she: "The equipment on top of Devonshire House does not make a positive contribution to the conservation area.

"However, the proposals for replacement equipment will be neutral when considering it against the present street scene."

She adds: "The removal of all the rooftop equipment would be positive if this could be achieved in the future."

The application is currently under consideration by NELC planners.
