ABUSIVE GRIMSBY WOMAN SPITS IN FACE OF KEY WORKER - THEN SHOUTS AT HIM: "COVID!"

AN incident in which  a woman spat in the face of one of North East Lincolnshire Council's waste disposal crew is being investigated by police.

The incident happened at 8.25am today in Eleanor Street, Grimsby. 

A woman chased the crew and hurled abuse at them. 

She then spat in the face of one of the workers and shouted at him the word: "Covid!"

NELC has reported the incident to Humberside Police and is checking CCTV of the incident.

The authority has also appealed for information about the offence.

According to NELC, there have been other incidents in which where crews - key workers during the pandemic - have been subjected to abuse. 

Said a  spokesperson for the authority: "Our waste and recycling crews are here to help and have the right to work in a safe environment. 

"It is not acceptable that people who are working hard to keep vital services going are being threatened and abused.

"We will not tolerate violence, physical aggression or verbal abuse of our staff.

"Behaviour like this is disgraceful, especially given the difficult circumstances the crews are working through."

It is not known why the woman was in an agitated state.
