'EXCITING DEVELOPMENTS' IN PROSPECT FOR GRIMSBY IN 2021 SAYS TOWN MP LIA NICI

Lia Nici - upbeat New Year message

GRIMSBY MP Lia Nici has issued a New Year message to constituents. It reads as follows.

The year, 2020, was dominated by the pandemic.

And although we are still under restrictions, the roll-out of the two vaccines means that we can look forward to getting back to some form of normal life from Easter onwards.

The virus has slowed down some of the work we wanted to move forward with, but it has not prevented us from progressing with our levelling-up agenda.

I have worked hard to make sure that Grimsby is prominent in Parliament so that Government can understand what towns like our's needs.

Since the loss of the fishing industry, Grimsby has not fared well, and I'm working continuously to change that.

During 2020, my constituency team and I worked with more than 1,800 constituents, been in touch with more than  400 Grimsby businesses and visited 10 local schools and colleges.

I have worked with local business people to help raise over £42,000 for local charities and have worked as a volunteer with others to help support those people shielding in the lockdown periods.

The Government has supported the town with over £45- million of funding to help redevelop the town centre and to encouraging its development as  a key port and centre for the renewables sectors.

More exciting developments are still to come.

I wish you all a safe and happy New Year.

Note: On her website, the 51-year-old MP has published  a video clip where she notes that her priorities for the current year include enhancing the skills and attainment of young people, of regenerating the town and of creating more jobs.
