Climate concern - Bill Parkinson |
A CALL has today come for solar panels to become a "standard feature" on the homes of all newly-constructed homes in North East Lincolnshire.
Cllr Bill Parkinson told this morning's meeting of the planning committee: "I am sure the purchasers would appreciate that in return for a little extra on the price of the property.
"For the benefit of the climate, I am sure this is the way we ought to be going."
The Cleethorpes councillor's comments came during discussion of a proposed 118-home development in Habrough.
Solar panels are not part of the scheme, but the committee still granted the application by Keigar Homes Ltd unanimous consent.
Cllr Parkinson was not finished with his comments.
He described the design of the properties and the layout as "reasonable" but lacking in imagination - especially compared with those he had recently seen in North Yorkshire.
"I wish we could insist on a more adventurous approach from developers,"he said.
Cllr Parkinson also warned of potential noise nuisance from the motorway for prospective occupiers of properties at the south-east corner of the development.
Following a comment from a resident, which had been noted by committee chairman Cllr Stephen Harness, Keigar Homes will be required to carry out "ecological enhancements" as part of the works.
It is not yet known what name will be given to the new estate nor when work will start.
