The proposed venture will be screened with a 1-metre hedgerow as at similar drive-thru premises in the area |
A NEW Starbucks drive-thru looks set to be built on land at the boundary of Cleethorpes and Grimsby.
Planners have given the green light for the development on part of the site formerly occupied by Ramsdens supermarket.
Some neighbours expressed misgivings about the prospect of late-night noise, but there are already chippies, burger shops and other takeaways in the vicinity.
Says case office Jonathan Cadd : "The redevelopment of a small portion of this site on a key road into the resort of Cleethorpes is to be welcomed.
"It will enhance a derelict site and support both tourism and the operation of a local retail and social centre.
"Highways safety and capacity will be retained and flood and drainage considerations will be mitigated to an acceptable level."
As part of the landscaping scheme, there will a screening hedgerow - as at nearby McDonalds - to make waiting cars less visible and to soak up exhaust fumes.
The applicant's agent proposed a height of 0.75-metres, but, following an observation from a member of the public, this will be increased to one metre to make the screening more effective and of more benefit to the environment.
Proposed trading hours are: 6am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 7am to 10pm on Sundays and Bank/Public Holidays.
It is hoped the project will encourage more retailers to take space on the old Rammy' site.
