Commending the NHS - the commodore |
ONE of the Royal Navy's top brass travelled all the way to Cleethorpes from his home near Liverpool for a 20-minute flag-flying ceremony at the Remembrance Gate.
Commodore Phil Waterhouse, Naval Regional Commander for Northern England and Isle of Man, said he welcomed the opportunity to get out of his flat overlooking the Mersey.
The purpose of the event was to give the Navy - and other armed forces - the opportunity to recognise the dedication, both before and during the pandemic, of NHS staff.
It was their equivalent of the applause being shown in streets up and down the country earlier this summer.
Also in attendance were civic and other dignitaries, plus a piper.
About a dozen curious passers-by stopped to listen to speeches given at the event which took place in sunny conditions at lunchtime today.
Below are more photographs taken at the ceremony.
