FOOTBALLER MARCUS RASHFORD HAS BACKING OF GRIMSBY MP OVER CHILD FOOD POVERTY

Lia  Nici

GRIMSBY MP Lia Nici has special reason for backing the high-profile campaign by footballer Marcus Rashford to tackle child food poverty.

Growing up in Grimsby as member of a one-parent family, she was a beneficiary of free school meals.

"This was an enormous help when my family was in need,"she says.

Ms Nici was among many Conservative MPs to have lobbied the Government to extend  provision of free school meals to deprived youngsters from term-time to the school holidays.

"I wholeheartedly support Marcus Rashford,"she says.

Meanwhile, North East Lincolnshire Council is also on board with the initiative which was subject to a special debate at the most recent meeting of the full council.

Among the speakers was Cllr Stephen Harness who said the England and Manchester United footballer deserved all the plaudits he had received.

"Who could not have been moved by his experiences as a child?"he asked.

"Arise, Sir Marcus,"say I.
